Graham and How It All Started

Graham on his first bikeIt all started 16 years ago when I was the proud owner of a spotless D.F.I. ZG1300 on a G registered plate. Unfortunately due to high mortgage rates and the need to repair my house I was forced to sell my Z for £4,000 on 4 November 1990.

By the millennium my fortunes had improved and I began the search to replace my beloved bike. On Wednesday 23rd January 2003 I saw an advertisement for a D.F.I. ZG1300 for £4,750 and after seeing it was in very good condition, bought it. A couple of days later I had time to look at the bike in more detail and noticed that it bore a very close resemblance to my old bike. I wondered could it be my old bike? I'd forgotten the registration number of my old bike and so went to look at some old photographs of my bike. When I saw a photograph of the rear view of the bike I realised to my amazement that it was my original bike!

Afterwards, I traced the story of her travels and discovered that in the intervening 12 years she'd traveled to Stoke on Trent, Luton and London but that she'd only clocked up 1,175 miles. In a funny sort of way this made me feel that she had stayed faithful to me over the years...

This led to my obsession with the mighty 13 and I have bought and sold lots of them over the years...

and it didn't finish here. I just carried on collecting, adding classic Hondas, Suzukis, Yamahas and of course Kawasakis to the fleet. When my hobby really started getting out of hand, I thought why not start a business dealing in classic bikes...

Keith the Mechanic

Keith on bikeI am a trained mechanic and over the years have worked on most things that sit on both 2 and 4 wheels. I met Graham a number of years ago and in my spare time have worked on maintaining, servicing and even completely rebuilding his ever expanding collection of bikes. I have always enjoyed working with bikes more than anything else (especially the Z1300) and when the option came up of being part of Retro City I jumped at the chance.
